In 2007, I was recently widowed and desperately seeking classes and workshops to help me manage our farm when I noticed an ad in the Mississippi Market Bulletin for a 3-day regional Women in Agriculture conference.  I traveled back and forth to Hattiesburg where I met a wonderful team of women who presented valuable resources and information, specifically tailored for farm women.  The conference was based on Annie’s Project, an Illinois-based program on the five areas of risk management.  I was thrown a lifeline when I literally felt I was drowning. The women I met became dear friends, and a whole new world was opened to me; From that conference, we formed the steering committee that eventually became Mississippi Women for Agriculture, a thriving organization that provides education and support for farm women, ag professionals, and ag students.

I learned that women play a vital role and bring a unique perspective to the field of agriculture. As ‘a woman for ag’, I want to use this platform to share information, promote ag, and tell the stories of ag women. So, stay tuned for highlights, how-tos, advocacy, and adventures.
